So… I was scrolling down my Facebook timeline like the mindless drone that I turn into when I’m bored and waiting for the next match of Call of Duty to start up when I stumbled across an advertisement for Spotify that completely took me by surprised! Now, I will admit that I ran across this post maybe nearly ten days late but that doesn’t matter. What does matter that it happened and I have to talk about it!
I literally froze, brow arched in curious concern. There was absolutely no way I was reading this correctly. See, I was one of those people that rationalized that paying for YouTube Red. It totally worth it because I could listen to videos without having to have my phone screen on. Comes in handy when you want to listen to anime opening and endings while cruising in your car, doing the mundane task of working for eight to ten hours a day, or just relaxing in the lovely abode of your room.
So I continued to stare at it and considered the possibilities. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get rid of YouTube Red. No… there was too much niche anime that wasn’t popular that had amazing soundtracks and scores for me to do that. But the idea that at some point, it could be an option is if the lovely people at Spotify was able to secure more music made me giddy.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that there wasn’t anime music on Spotify but it was too far and in between. It has probably gotten better since the last time I went actually searching for it but I remember when you had to literally do deep dives to find them. Then you had to hope that you could even play the song or hope that the song wasn’t removed after awhile once it was discovered or that it wasn’t a cover.
The choice of music just so happen to hit me where it hurts. I was Ghost in the Shell fan when I first saw the movie… back when I had no clue what I was watching but everything was simply mesmerizing because it so different. The openings for Stand Alone complex were songs that I put on every single CD regardless of the mood or the intent of the CD. That’s how good they were to me. And I actually owned the original soundtrack for it so I had songs that were only played during the series once or twice. Songs like “i can’t be cool” and “lithium flower”.
And let’s not even get started with Panty and Stocking! I LOVE that soundtrack. I have the entire thing as a playlist on my YouTube account. I have been listening to Beverly Hills Cock since I started writing this and it has been glorious!
And don’t even get me started on the Trigun soundtrack! What is more relaxing than listening to “Sound Life”!? Listening to the soothing guitar and that beautiful voice while swaying back and forth thinking about love and peace? They even have entire playlist from the most popular artist in the industry such as LiSA and and FLOW. I’m hoping that they add a playlist for Aimer and not just her released albums or the Eureka Seven original score! (Remember, they have playlist of songs but it is a difference when they are officially on there and can’t be taken down.)
So I am raising a glass to you Spotify. I hope you guys can continue to add the music that we love from the anime that we cherish so much. It truly is a wonderful feeling to know that the awareness and popularity of anime is steadily growing with no signs of slowing down.
What do you guys think about the addition of licensed anime music being added on Spotify? I don’t think I can get rid of YouTube Red just yet, but my fingers are crossed. Where do you listen to your anime music? How often do you listen to your favorite openings, endings, or original score? Let’s talk about it in the comments. Today was FLCL… all day.
As always, thanks for stopping by and reading. You don’t know how much I appreciate it. You all are awesome!
And until the next post…
