Anime Music on Spotify – NANI!?

This wasn’t always here… was it? Please tell me I wasn’t the last to know!

So… I was scrolling down my Facebook timeline like the mindless drone that I turn into when I’m bored and waiting for the next match of Call of Duty to start up when I stumbled across an advertisement for Spotify that completely took me by surprised! Now, I will admit that I ran across this post maybe nearly ten days late but that doesn’t matter. What does matter that it happened and I have to talk about it!

I literally froze, brow arched in curious concern. There was absolutely no way I was reading this correctly. See, I was one of those people that rationalized that paying for YouTube Red. It totally worth it because I could listen to videos without having to have my phone screen on. Comes in handy when you want to listen to anime opening and endings while cruising in your car, doing the mundane task of working for eight to ten hours a day, or just relaxing in the lovely abode of your room.

So I continued to stare at it and considered the possibilities. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get rid of YouTube Red. No… there was too much niche anime that wasn’t popular that had amazing soundtracks and scores for me to do that. But the idea that at some point, it could be an option is if the lovely people at Spotify was able to secure more music made me giddy.

It really made me think about just how far we as a community and anime as a whole has came since the days where I just to struggle for hours to find music on PirateBay or through websites to make CDs.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that there wasn’t anime music on Spotify but it was too far and in between. It has probably gotten better since the last time I went actually searching for it but I remember when you had to literally do deep dives to find them. Then you had to hope that you could even play the song or hope that the song wasn’t removed after awhile once it was discovered or that it wasn’t a cover.

But now…

I can listen Fallen Angel, The Theme of Scanty and Knee Socks (OMG!), and Fly Away!

The choice of music just so happen to hit me where it hurts. I was Ghost in the Shell fan when I first saw the movie… back when I had no clue what I was watching but everything was simply mesmerizing because it so different. The openings for Stand Alone complex were songs that I put on every single CD regardless of the mood or the intent of the CD. That’s how good they were to me. And I actually owned the original soundtrack for it so I had songs that were only played during the series once or twice. Songs like “i can’t be cool” and “lithium flower”.

And let’s not even get started with Panty and Stocking! I LOVE that soundtrack. I have the entire thing as a playlist on my YouTube account. I have been listening to Beverly Hills Cock since I started writing this and it has been glorious!

Not going to lie, I sung all of the openings to My Hero Academia on my ride home with the windows down… in 35 degree weather. It was worth it.

And don’t even get me started on the Trigun soundtrack! What is more relaxing than listening to “Sound Life”!? Listening to the soothing guitar and that beautiful voice while swaying back and forth thinking about love and peace? They even have entire playlist from the most popular artist in the industry such as LiSA and and FLOW. I’m hoping that they add a playlist for Aimer and not just her released albums or the Eureka Seven original score! (Remember, they have playlist of songs but it is a difference when they are officially on there and can’t be taken down.)

So I am raising a glass to you Spotify. I hope you guys can continue to add the music that we love from the anime that we cherish so much. It truly is a wonderful feeling to know that the awareness and popularity of anime is steadily growing with no signs of slowing down.

What do you guys think about the addition of licensed anime music being added on Spotify? I don’t think I can get rid of YouTube Red just yet, but my fingers are crossed. Where do you listen to your anime music? How often do you listen to your favorite openings, endings, or original score? Let’s talk about it in the comments. Today was FLCL… all day.

As always, thanks for stopping by and reading. You don’t know how much I appreciate it. You all are awesome!

And until the next post…

I have Apple music and my playlists are almost all anime tracks. There could be more, for sure. I do have a Myth & Roid album on there – eYe’s which is excellent, but I want the OP from Curious Hero – Tit for Tat. Where the hell is that one Apple Music?

    1. I wouldn’t know a darn thing about Apple Music… at least not yet. Been over on Android since that first REAL android phone (the T-Mobile G1) was released and never thought about switching. But… times change and having a girlfriend deeply rooted into Apple has shaken my resolve.

      I’m kinda jealous now.

I have never been an Apple fanboy, but I do have AppleTV and an iPhone. I love my laptop too much to switch to Apple though. One day maybe, but not anytime soon. AppleTV is awesome though.

      2. I head the show See with Jason Mamoa was really good and I have been really tempted to sign up for the service so I can watch it and review it… *le sigh* Too many services!!

By AppleTV I mean the box that attaches to the TV so I can add Apps. I don’t have the streaming service from them. See does look good though. Disney Plus will be the next service we add and we’re cutting off the cable.

      4. Congratulations on making the step of cutting the box. I have heard that lingo in a minute. I haven’t had cable in years, only really paying for the internet which almost just as expensive. But honestly, I wouldn’t go back to it. As for Disney+, totally worth in the investment for those with kids especially and even for those without. I can’t wait to see what they add to the service in original shows.

I was never really interested in spotify… until this moment…

    1. Whoa… Hold your horses. It isn’t all that great for those who aren’t premiumum members. YouTube is still the place to go for now. But it is looking pretty good if Spotify can build from this start.

      1. Merlin says:

Heh, I didn’t say I was rushing off to sign up *now.* This has just sparked my interest for the first time. 🙂

      2. Oh! Phew. Didn’t want you to get the service and be like… “Nooooo my song isn’t here! Curse Winter and his optimism!”

        LOL! Nah, no worries! 😀
