30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 7

Who or what was the most annoying anime character?

Funny, my choice for this question actually counts as both a who and a what. As I mentioned in a previous post within this Challenge, Soul Eater is an amazing series that really did not get the justice that it deserved. It had a long list of awesome characters with unique backgrounds. However, there is one character that I once thought I  loved but would eventually succumb to hated it.

I want the drink the bartender was making!

Now, I have a few reasons why I can’t stand Excalibur. However, these were the same reasons why I thought I really like Excalibur. For those watched the series, you can already here can’t you? The wonderful song that came along whenever the legendary holy sword was near. “Excalibur! Excalibur!” You hear it now, don’t you? Do you remember that adorable little shuffle that he used to do? Picture it…

Look at those feet go!

I was extremely happy when I heard that Excalibur existed in the Soul Eater universe. Coming off the Fate/Stay series and Saber’s use of the weapon, I thought we were going to be in for a treat when someone used one of the most well-known blades in all of history.

HOWEVER… that was not the case. Excalibur turned out to be one of the hardest and most nerve-racking blades ever made! When you think about it, it is pretty ironic. Greatest blade known to man with such an impossible barrier to surpass just to wield it… whenever he thought it necessary.  It is hard to even be around Excalibur for long periods of the times because of his obnoxious and narcissistic personality. If you thought Black Star was bad, Excalibur is THE most dysfunctional character to ever exist.  He goes on extremely long tangents about things that have nothing to do with anything going on. He taunts people with song and dance when he thinks you are a fool which basically everyone is because no one is as great or awesome as him. Makes you do extreme chores for him with no time to breath as his schedule is down to the minute. Hell, it is rumored that you called a “hero” or a king” because only a few chosen in all of time with have the temperament to be around him for long periods of time.

Listen to this. Excalibur’s special ability is known as Madness of Anger which pulls all those under his subject into a virtually inescapable insanity… and his mere existence is capable of doing so.   What type of shit is this!?

Dat pose!

Not to mention when you finally get to see Excalibur in action after poor Hero through one thousand provisions that consumes nearly all of his day that he has to do everyday, he defeats Black Star, Kid, and Kilik basically instantaneously with a beam of light after dodging their attacks at the speed of light. THE SPEED OF LIGHT! I know Excalibur is suppose to be overpowered. I understand that. But the SPEED OF LIGHT!?

Then because Hero forgets one of the provisions, Excalibur goes into a fit of sneezes which allegedly was the deal breaker for their relationship.

Don’t get me wrong, I died laughing when Excalibur was on screen but as a character, he was annoying as hell to me.

Until the next post…

I cannot stand Excalibur in Soul Eater and his episodes are ones I routinely skip when rewatching. He is just too annoying.

I loved Excalibur! Black Star was annoying, but Excalibur was cool in my books.

    1. Black Star was my guy. By far, he had the best theme in the show and I love how his motivation was simply to transcend gods. But different strokes for different folks.

Haha, I never liked Excalibur either, but that bartender does make me curious…

    1. Curious about what drink he was shaking!?
