At some point, I will be going back and watching both Eureka Seven and Eureka Seven Ao give my adult review. I really want to see if that adolescent nostalgia hold up because I really loved the original series. AO had some problems that I couldn’t really get behind, but Renton and Eureka’s story is one that I can still feel resonating in my heart. The characters were so unique. The art was stylish and hip at the time. And the music was completely mind-blowing. (I still have all the opening and endings on my phone… along with some of the original score.)
So I figured that today would be a good day to shed some light on the fact that Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution as the film is scheduled to premiere today!
Back in April, producer Mashahiko Minami revealed that the first anime film in the new three-part Eureka Seven trilogy will open this fall in Japan as well as several other countries simultaneously and that Funimation would be in charge of the North America release. I like this because though the screening windows are small, Funimation at least tries to have blocks for their release windows usually spanning over three days.
Here is the synopsis
Ten years ago, the major earth-shaking “First Summer of Love” event occurred. Renton, who lost his father during the event, now attends the army school of the United Federation of Predigo Towards located in the border town of Bellforest. Because his late father is still praised, Renton feels something is lacking as he continues with his ordinary, boring days. Then one day, Nirvash, the world’s oldest LFO, appears in front of him and a girl named Eureka emerges from the cockpit. This was the beginning of the future of humans and Scub Coral, another intelligent lifeform.
Was this encounter all just coincidence? Of was it fate? Where will Renton and Eureka’s journey end?
The title for the first film is called Kōkyōshihen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution (Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution) The film will cover The First Summer of Love phenomenon that occurred ten years before the events of Eureka Seven which is awesome if you are a fan because the anime always hinted at the event but never really showcase it. The films will not be deviating from the original story but will have an original ending unique to the films. This includes new scenes, new voice work, and reimagined scenes.
With all of this work, most of the original staff is returning! Though I may not know the key animators and staff, I am really happy to know that Naoki Sato is returning as the composer. If there is one thing everyone would agree on is that the music of Eureka Seven was some of the best music in anime at the time.
The film was premiered at Otakon convention back in August for about a thousand people and the movie was praised for being fun and enjoyable by first-time watchers and returning fans.
As of right now, there is nothing listened on Funimation Films website concerning dates of times. I will probably update this when it does so we can all be in the loop.
I am so excited about this film! Even now I feel the chills of revisiting those characters!
