Dreaming a Good Life Lived

Daily writing prompt
What’s your biggest dream?

Biggest, eh?

One has to take a moment and dwell on the well of dreams to pick which one is the biggest. As I move them around, searching for it, I catch myself smiling because I see so many that I had forgotten. Old ones that now carry chips and cracks in their design.

Is it strange that I immediately thought of those dreams like the orbs in Inside Out?

To be a published writer, blogger, or both! To be a streamer or a YouTube content creator! To be a movie reviewer or have a podcast where I can speak my mind on the things I love. To share a community of like-minded people so that I, and others, wouldn’t feel so alone.

From realistic to the truly fantastical, there are so many of them in this well of mine.

It takes a moment, but I find it.

It wasn’t as old as I thought it would be. As I take it out of the well, I cherish it because I didn’t realize before how dear it was to me. How important it is to me.

Even now.

I want to be sitting on a porch on a cool autumn afternoon. My lawn is filled with leaves that I’m too lazy to rake. Besides, I think they add character to the house. I want to have a book on my lap. One that I hold dear to my heart. I look at the content in that particular book often to remind me of everything I had done.

I dream of a family that I’ve created memorable moments with. Experienced highs and lows. Loved and laughed until our bellies hurt. Ate really good food and traveled to learn and see many things.

My dream is to simply live a good life.

With the way life is right now, I am terrified that I may not be able to discover the route to that conclusion. It is hard to have hope right now, and I could desperately use some. To discover a little pocket of good somewhere to guide me through the trenches of negativity all around me.

To have close friends that I am still talking to after years go by, so we can share stories and reminisce about the good ole’ days over zero-sugar drinks and sweets that I probably shouldn’t be eating.

To be visited by children who love me and check on me, so I can be weird, show them a bunch of things that they have no clue about, and do it all for laughs.

To hopefully have someone who loves me enough to stick by me so we can enjoy the fruits of our labor as retirees… old, with too much time on our hands.

Pretty lofty dream.

Out of all of them, I’m hoping that this one here is the one that doesn’t stay a dream.

What are your thoughts?
